Porcelain Veneers
The foundations of a great smile are straight, white, proportional and healthy teeth. Of all methods available today for changing and improving the look of your smile, veneers are among the most popular and successful treatment options. Veneers can be fabricated from different materials and there are many brands within each category such as Empress, Da Vinci, Lumineers, IPS e.max and many more. The material of choice at our office is porcelain, due to its strength, resistance to stain and highly esthetic, natural appearance. Beautiful teeth have texture, character and have many shades of white and translucencies within. That is our goal with all our veneer cases, also taking health, function and longevity into consideration.
The process begins with: (1) a consultation. We will take photos and records of your mouth to create a treatment plan and present your options to you. Next (2) a diagnostic wax-up will be prepared to show you the aesthetic changes possible. Then (3) you will have an appointment to have your teeth prepared and all necessary impressions will be taken. In this visit you will leave with a temporary resin that mimics the veneers in terms of color, width, height and contours. During this short period when temporaries are worn, color, speech, length, characterization, function and all other aspects of the veneers are re-evaluated. Although these temporaries look great (we have had patients wear their temporaries to their weddings), they lack the luster, translucency and beauty of the final veneers. The next step will be (4) the removal of temporaries and placement of veneers.
The process does not end here. I always tell my patients that the longevity of veneers, teeth or anything in life depends on maintenance and proper care. Brushing, flossing and regular professional cleanings will be an integral part in protecting and enjoying your smile for a long time.
