Tooth-Colored Fillings & Bonding

Tooth-colored composite fillings offer a safe, strong and attractive option to restore teeth. They conservatively restore your teeth to strength and your smile to beauty. They can be used in the front area to restore small chipped, discolored or misaligned areas or can be used in the back on the molars. Unlike silver fillings they do not require a certain bulk for strength. They can be as minimal as the tip of needle because their strength arises from bonding to tooth structure and not bulk of material. That’s why composites are more conservative restorations than metal, requiring far less drilling of healthy tooth structure.
Silver fillings (amalgams) are obsolete. Amalgams expand after placement and can cause fractures in many cases. Patients may get bacteria leakage and also suffer from sensitive teeth to cold and hot or to biting. When replacing a silver filling, whether it is due to fracture, chipping, recurrent decay (bacteria) or if it is for cosmetic reasons, appropriate technique and materials must be chosen. Dr. Abedi and Dr. Ardalan both have extensive experience with tooth-colored fillings and use the highest-quality bonding agents and composites available in dentistry.
