Crowns & Bridges

Crowns
Crowns (caps) are a type of dental restoration that are cemented and fully cup over the portion of tooth which lies at or above the gum line. Crowns encase the entire visible aspect of the tooth and becomes the tooth’s new outer surface. There are different materials that crowns can be made of. Three major categories are 1. Metal (gold) 2. Porcelain fused to metal 3. Porcelain (metal free/ceramic substrate).
Although the crown of choice in most cases is the metal-free/ceramic kind, due to its resemblance to natural teeth and “life-like” appearance, the other types of crowns are still used and indicated when added strength is needed or the space between the upper and lower jaw is limited. Regardless of the type of crown used, we have the knowledge to perform all of them to perfection and guide you to choose the treatment that is best for YOU.
Bridges
Bridges are permanent (not removable) custom fit restorations to replace one or missing teeth. They are crowns attached together and anchored to teeth adjacent to the missing area. Although this is not the best option to replace a missing tooth, it is still an option that patients should know about.
Implants are generally the first choice in replacing missing teeth and offer many advantages over bridges. But, if a patient is not a candidate for an implant due to a variety of reasons (uncontrolled diabetes, insufficient bone, etc.), bridges still offer an excellent solution to restore your smile to a natural appearance and also return it to comfort and function.
